New York Times (28-8-1983<\/a>): \u201cLewis McClure, a retired engineer, has spent the last two years replicating Johann Gutenberg’s 15th-century printing press, which revolutionized the dissemination of knowledge by printing books with movable type rather than by hand. Mr. McClure has produced a press that is authentic right down to the main screw, the central component of the press, which he carved painstakingly by hand. This labor of love is on permanent exhibition at the Scoville Memorial Library in Salisbury, founded in 1803 by Caleb Bingham. Currently, the press is shown with an exhibition on the history of miniature books.\u201d<\/p>\n
