Comments:

This is a recut from the 1521 woodcut of Jodocus Badius Ascensius. First use is probably in 1549. [USTC].

Nigel Roche (2000), page 31: ‘Jean de Roigny, Jodocus Badius’s son-in-law, and a Paris printer from 1529 to 1565, used a close copy as his own mark. This can be distinguished by the presence of a double cross behind the puller’s foot.’

Renouard notes: ‘Réplique de la marque numéro 3 de Josse Badius son beau-père, qu’il emploie aussi.’

Note: The decoration on the trousers of the puller and beater differ too. The shape of the collar of the beater, and the stones around window-frame have different outlines.
