Notes: The following illustrations were not included yet. I could not find these online, or their quality is too poor to be beneficial. 1. Kupferdrucker (1700). Ad Stijnman provided the following information: ‘Drawing in pen and browned ink with watercolour of the coat of arms of the plate printers. In Ueber Herkunft, Gebräuche, Meisterstück und Wappen der Handwerke und Künste der Stadt Nürnberg bis zum Anfange des 18. Jhts, ca. 1700; Wolfenbüttel, HAB, Ms 391.5 Novi, pp. 163–164.’ Concluding: I would like a better quality image and links before I include this. 2. James Scott (1765-1776). This is a copy in reverse of: James Scott … [et al.], A New general dictionary of arts and sciences, or, Compleat system of universal knowledge London: printed for S. Crowder, 1765–1766, 3 vols, see vol. 2, pl. LXXV, Fig. 5. Rolling Press. The book has been scanned, but plate LXXV is missing? There is a clear relation with another 1765 image. More information is required. Concluding: I would like a better quality image and links before I include this. 3. Horace Walpole (1784). In a illustration of the villa of Horace Walpole 1784, there is a press in the right handside room. The title is: ‘Inside of the Printing House at Strawberry Hill.’ Concluding: Not detailed enough to be useful. |
