The sign states: “In a print shop similar to this one the first newspaper in the Tennessee country, the Knoxville Gazette, was published. The first edition appeared on November 5, 1791, printed by George Roulstone and Robert Ferguson. Roulstone later became the first official printer to the State of Tennessee.”
