This press is an original design based upon the considered research and construction efforts of Gordon ‘Sully’ Sullivan, a master printer, and Richard Hicks, a master woodworker who completed the press in 1983.
A second press? There was an American Amateur Press Association (AAPA) convention in 2000 in Hayward (June 15-18). Their website states: “Delegates were on their own for dinner, but returned to the meeting room at 7:30 for a demonstration of printing on an authentic reproduction of a Ben Franklin wooden press by Gordon ‘Sully’ Sullivan.”
