The text on the engraving states: ‘Edward Spencer, Stationer & printer at the Star & Elephant in Birchin-Lane, London. Sells all sorts of Books for Merchants, Accounts, Paper, Hangings for Rooms, and all other Stationary Wares, at Moderate Prices. All manner of Printing performed with expedition & care. Copper Plates Neatly engraved and Printed.’.

The description in the Lewis Walpole Library (Yale University) states: ‘A collection of English engraved advertisements, trade cards, invitations to society functions, and bookplates probably compiled around 1758 by F. [ or T.?] Legge of St. James's Market and mounted in an album, with five later items laid-in.’
