Comments:

At least five different engravings of this illustration were used in the 21 editions that were printed between 1695 and 1800. The appendices contain a preliminary bibliography and an overview of 21 illustrations.

The frontispice states: ‘Hier ziet gy door de Konst verbeelt, ’t Gewoel ’t Menschelyke leven; In hondert Prenten af-gedeelt; Door Luykens geest in ’t Licht gegeven. Terwijl de Vaarsen, onder aan, Gansch zinryk, op de Prenten slaan.’

Eeghen and Kellen (1905) mention on page 267: ‘This series of copies was re-used later by Reinier and Josua Ottens.’ They say ‘same year’, but I have not been able to find a 1695 edition that was printed by Reinier and Josua Ottens. This illustration was used in 1695 (2x), 1699, 1725, 1750, and 1751.
